Stories With Integrity. Video With Purpose.

Meet Mike Kepka, Founder of Kepka House and four-time Emmy Award–winning storyteller.

Great stories don’t start with cameras — they start with curiosity. Kepka House was built on the belief that when storytelling is honest, intentional, and grounded in real people, it creates work that resonates, performs, and lasts.

Mike Kepka is the creative force behind Kepka House, bringing more than 25 years of experience in visual storytelling across journalism, documentary, broadcast, and branded content.

He began his career as a newspaper photojournalist, spending the final 16 years at the San Francisco Chronicle, where he created the acclaimed video column “The City Exposed.” The series explored San Francisco’s most compelling eccentrics and everyday characters, earning Mike four Emmy Awards and establishing his reputation for bold, human-centered storytelling.

Working in the fast-paced world of journalism shaped Mike’s storytelling approach—honing his ability to uncover meaningful stories, communicate them to broad audiences, and deliver consistently under intense deadlines.

In 2015, Mike relocated to Washington, D.C., transitioning into documentary and branded filmmaking. From 2015–2017, he served as a go-to Director of Photography for CNN Courageous, traveling nationwide to produce documentary short films for major brands including Method Soap, National Car Rental, Clover Milk, and Deus Ex. This work culminated in a 30-minute documentary on Human Augmentation, which streamed on Amazon Prime and received a Cannes Silver Lion Award.

Kepka House Philosophy

At Kepka House, storytelling is never just about visuals — it’s about trust.

Mike believes the most effective video work doesn’t chase attention; it earns it. Every project begins with listening, research, and intention, ensuring stories feel authentic while aligning with real business and organizational goals.

We work best with brands, unions, organizations, and media platforms that value long-term impact over short-term trends and understand that strong storytelling is both an art and a strategy.
